A Spotlight on Black History: Sarah Boone invented the ironing board. Her board consisted of a smooth, heatproof, narrow board with two curved edges. The ironing board was invented to provide an effective, simple, cheap, and convenient device for the purpose of ironing the sleeves and bodies of ladies garments. Sarah Boone's invention was patented in 1892 and is still used throughout the world today.

Students! Are you interested in the performing arts in singing, drama, and dance? The Young Americans, a performing group based in Southern California will be doing a 3 day workshop in UAA from 3/6-3/8. Please see your counselor for more information.

Juniors and Seniors! Do you need some testing practice before you take your SAT or ACT? Frontier Tutoring will be offering a FREE practice ACT and SAT test on Saturdays, 2/25 and 3/4 in the library. You must sign up in their website. See your counselor for more information.

Students! Are you interested in learning more about University of Alaska Fairbanks College of Engineering and Mines? A representative will be coming Wednesday, 2/22 during lunch time in the CRC to answer any questions.

Students! Would you like to learn more about the programs and degrees from Charter College? They are having a College Fair on Friday, 3/3 from 9:00-1:00pm. Please see your counselor for more information.

It’s Blood Drive time again. The Blood Bank of Alaska will be at Bartlett Friday, March 3rd. The earlier you return your completed paperwork, the better selection of donation times you have to choose from. If you are sixteen years or older and weigh 113 pounds or more, join the Golden Bear tradition of giving and pick up donation paperwork from Mr. Grenier in Rm 414A.  Go Bears

From the library ~ We are always looking for our readers but now we are looking for our artsy bears. If you like to paint, doodle, or just be crafty we have two super opportunities for you. One is simple and can be done during lunch - Come design and paint book ends to be displayed and used on shelves. The second is a contest! We want display your picture on the windows. There will be several winners so please come get the requirements in the library and create a winning Bartlett picture to be put in the windows, mimicking stained glass. As always Go Bears! and as always from the library ~ Read! Read! Read! and now come be artsy!
